Matthew 2:7-12 NRSV
“Then Herod secretly called for the wise men and learned from them the exact time when the star had appeared. Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child; and when you have found him, bring me word so that I may also go and pay him homage.” When they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at its rising, until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road.”
God never fails to guide. The Magi were able to find the Christ child even with help from one who wanted to destroy him. There is so much here, but I want us to look at one thing. After they saw Jesus and worshipped him they were warned in a dream not to to return to Herod and go home a different way.
Yes, they had a dream. It appears all of them -not to return to Herod. We have just celebrated that magnificent day. For some of us we were with family as that is also God’s gift to us. We fellowshipped, reminisced, thanked God. Some had no one, but we’re not alone. However we celebrated I offer that we too do not return the same way. It follows that when we spend time with God, we can’t go back the same way. We gift him with ourselves and he presents more of himself. There is no way we can return to how we were- just like that. We go back another way. Yes, people are getting excited about the new year but we get excited about each new day, each new opportunity to love, to live, to grow In what he has for us. Blessings. enough for now
