Your Story

Joshua 4:4-7
(NRSV):Then Joshua summoned the twelve men from the Israelites, whom he had appointed, one from each tribe. Joshua said to them, “Pass on before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you take up a stone on his shoulder, one for each of the tribes of the Israelites, so that this may be a sign among you. When your children ask in time to come, ‘What do those stones mean to you?’ then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off in front of the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the Israelites a memorial forever.”

We are to have commemorate major events in our lives. We should also remember them as life changing events where God’s hand was in it. Sometimes those events are where he kept us from peril, or how he allowed us to get rid of the idols in our lives. There is always a story, and a story behind the story. We have to tell our story, because God has been too good to us not to tell our story.

So when they ask us, ‘what do these stones mean?’ You know- or ‘why do you have this? ‘ or ‘what does this mean?’ You can share what God has done for you, with you, and in you. Don’t miss the significance of telling your story. enough for now

Hold On

Psalm 37:5
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” I start here. Hold on to this. Sometimes we just need to know this. Now, let’s back up to verses 1-6:
Do not fret because of the wicked; do not be envious of wrongdoers, for they will soon fade like the grass, and wither like the green herb.
Trust in the Lord, and do good; so you will live in the land, and enjoy security. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will make your vindication shine like the light,
and the justice of your cause like the noonday.”
Hold these all week. Stop on “commit your way to the Lord; trust him, and he will act.” Hold on and watch him work. Hold on, it’s already done. Hold on God’s got you. Hold on and thank him. enough for now.

Listen

1 Samuel 3:10 (NRSV): “Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord under Eli. The word of the Lord was rare in those days; visions were not widespread.
At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his room; the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was. Then the Lord called, “Samuel! Samuel!” and he said, “Here I am!” and ran to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” So he went and lay down. The Lord called again, “Samuel!” Samuel got up and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.” Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. The Lord called Samuel again, a third time. And he got up and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy. Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and if he calls you, you shall say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. Now the Lord came and stood there, calling as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

Young Samuel answered who he thought was calling him-Eli. Eli was not calling him but Eli pointed the way to who was calling him. Too often we answer too many voices, which will cause confusion. We must be clear that we answer the one voice as he calls us. Out of that we move, we get direction. It’s not difficult- “speak Lord.” Listen and be amazed, listen and be at peace. Listen and respond. enough for now.

In It

1 Corinthians 9:24b nrsv
“Do you not know that in a race the runners all compete, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win it.”

We must be clear that each one runs our race in our way. We can’t look to the right or left to see what another is doing. While we are intertwined, our race is our race. We run with the certainty that Jesus has already paved the way with Holy Spirit guiding, and God cheering us on.

Our winning is assured but we must stay in the race. Sometimes we run, sometimes we walk, sometimes we pause for direction, sometimes we rest, but at all times we stay in this race.

We are never left alone on our journey, our race, but we must at all times ask for directions. Holy Spirit as our Paraclete guides us. Oh please be encouraged, when it appears that we have taken a wrong path through misinformation, or not listening, we can get back on the path, get back in the race.  As My daughter-in-love says to us struggling in working out.- “We got this y’all !” Hear Holy Spirit saying “You got this!”

We are the ‘one’ to run it, we are the ‘one’ to win it. And when we hear “Well done!” My my, then we can rest knowing that we were in it and won it. enough for now.

Make a Change

Blessings on Ash Wednesday
Today marks the beginning of Lent. For these 40 days let us look inward to examine where we are and what we need to release. Let us look upward to examine our connection with God and how to walk stronger.
Let us look outward and how we can love another. Take at least two hours a week for solitude and prayer. Don’t talk to God- let him talk to you. And then thank him. Thank him for your very life. Thank him that he loves us the way he does. Blessings.enough for now
